Planners. I absolutely loved planners! I have always been organized, or at least as far as I can remember. I like things being in one place all the time. I like knowing where everything is. I like knowing what I have to do for the day. This tendency to over-organize can be seen as something a Type-A(wesome) person might do. Little did I know that this whole time, there were many other Type Awesome people out there just like me.

I bought my first paper planner from Target during college. There is just something about putting a pen to paper that really solidifies something for me. This year I bought my first “luxury” planner from Erin Condren and with that I found this community of planner girls and planner love! Not only did all these women inspire me to be more organized in my day to day, but they showed me this online community that spread across borders to other cities, states, and countries. Music Monday: Kydd Jones Redefining Austin Hip Hop with “Patience”

Native Austinite Kydd Jones returns with a new single off his upcoming album “GR33D” which will feature artists like Kirko Bangz, Tory Lanez & more. Kydd has performed at festivals like SXSW, NXNE, A3C, Fun Fun Fun Fest & the Brooklyn HipHop Festival and has previously collaborated with artists like Yelawolf and Pac Div.

SXSW 2012. I went to a hip hop show on a Tuesday night. Out came out this scruffy black dude with a a simple shirt and some shorts. He had a cap that bared the letters LNS. He began his set and as the show went on I could not look away. Here was this kid from Austin, a place I had been living in for the past 5 years, and I had never see, or even heard of him. How did I miss this? How did I not know someone so talented was living and performing in the same city I lived in this whole time? Austin has a hip hop scene? Ha.

My Review:

I guess I read this book at the perfect time in my life. I am going through somewhat of a transition right now. Sometimes it feels like I am not where I WANT to be in life. I love my career, but the spark I used to get about it is gone. “I Am That Girl” helped me see that I can find my passion and go for it without any fear.

My favorite part of the book was reading all the personal stories and quotes from leaders of all backgrounds. I really felt like I connected to all the stories in one way or another. Continue reading
