Happy Monday!

This week’s Music Monday features a few new songs that I am totally in LOVE with!

Of course, after the Meek Mill vs. Drake debacle, it was only right to include Drake’s new single, which I am sure is going to be a hit.

Let’s get started!

Drake – “Hotline Bling”

I am so in love with this track! I went to visit my family this past weekend and my little sister introduced me to this song. I have been playing it on repeat since then. I really think that women are going to make this song a hit. It appeals more to women with it’s clever lyrics and simple flow. Even Lorde agrees! Forget about the beef with Meek Mill, you NEED to listen to this track. It is now available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and Soundcloud.

Pitbull – “Piensas” ft. Gente de Zona

If you have attended one of my Zumba classes before, you know I am OBSESSED with Pitbull. I have been a Pitbull fan since the tender age of 14 when Pitbull released his debut album M.I.A.M.I., lead single being “Culo” . It was the soundtrack choice of quinces and parties for the next few years. If you remember this was before Pitbull put on a suit and became the AMAZING artist and business man he is today. Piensas, the second single released November of last year from Pitbull’s album Dale, is a smooth reggaeton mixed with salsa beats from Gente de Zona. A Spanglish version of the song with Shaggy was released on July 24, 2015 on Spotify. Dale is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Dr. Dre – “Talk About It” ft. Justus & King Mez

After a 14-year hiatus, Dr. Dre is back with a soundtrack for the biopic, Straight Outta Compton, based on the life and times of N.W.A. For a person of his success and status, I expected the album to be well thought out, but mediocre in overall delivery. The album is surprisingly good and it really elevates Dr. Dre as a producer and overall artist. My favorite song so far on the album is Talk About It, which features up-and-coming rapper King Mez and little-known Dallas rapper Justus. Dr. Dre is known for finding new talent and transforming them into legends. I love this song, because in simple terms, it goes HARD. Dr. Dre’s new album was released on Friday, August 7, 2015 and is available now on iTunes.

Tough Love – “Pony (Jump On It)” ft. Ginuwine

With Tough Love’s rendition on Ginuwine’s Pony, it is clear that the late 90s/early 2000s are making a comeback! I don’t know about you, but I miss me some R&B. Tough Love mixes the original Pony with EDM elements to create a song that appeals to today’s generation without losing the “sexiness” of the original. I love this mix and will definitely be adding it to my workout playlist this week!  The single was released on Friday, August 7, 2015. You can find the song on iTunes and Apple Music.

These were my top picks for the week!

“At. Long. Last. A$AP” – A$AP Rocky

At. Long. Last. A$AP is the second studio album by American hip hop recording artist A$AP Rocky. It was released on May 26, 2015, by A$AP Worldwide, Polo Grounds Music and RCA Records.

A$AP Rocky comes out swinging with his new album. The whole album itself is a carefully planned soundtrack to our lives. all walks of like can relate in one way or another to every song. Not only are the songs amazing, but A$AP Rocky brings on collaborations with guest verses from Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Future, M.I.A., Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and UGK, including Pimp C, who died in 2007. Rod Stewart and Miguel sing on one song.

As a music lover, I love all the different sounds that are used on this album. The album is laden with samples, from soul to Southern rock to indie rock. Nothing is too out of reach for A$AP Rocky. Continue reading

Music Monday: Kydd Jones Redefining Austin Hip Hop with “Patience”

Native Austinite Kydd Jones returns with a new single off his upcoming album “GR33D” which will feature artists like Kirko Bangz, Tory Lanez & more. Kydd has performed at festivals like SXSW, NXNE, A3C, Fun Fun Fun Fest & the Brooklyn HipHop Festival and has previously collaborated with artists like Yelawolf and Pac Div.

SXSW 2012. I went to a hip hop show on a Tuesday night. Out came out this scruffy black dude with a a simple shirt and some shorts. He had a cap that bared the letters LNS. He began his set and as the show went on I could not look away. Here was this kid from Austin, a place I had been living in for the past 5 years, and I had never see, or even heard of him. How did I miss this? How did I not know someone so talented was living and performing in the same city I lived in this whole time? Austin has a hip hop scene? Ha.

Music Monday: I Used to Love H.E.R.

“I Used to Love Hearing Every Rhyme.”

“I Used to Love Hip Hop in its Essence is Real.”

The day I fell in LOVE with Hip-Hop. Thursday, February 17, 2011. I was 21.

I had just been dumped by a guy who fell for his classmate, Victoria, who he would “tutor”.

It was the first time since my freshman year of college that I had been left for another woman. This time, though, I wasn’t left wondering. He straight up told me, “I like Victoria, so we need to break up.” That summer he told me the fling lasted 2 weeks and that he regretted his decision immediately after. Haha Funny how things work out that way. Continue reading

My Zumba Journey

My Zumba Journey began in January 2012.

Just fresh out of my latest breakup, I found that working out made me feel better. I started running again and began weight lifting in an effort to lost weight, tone up, and potentially catch the eye of my ex again. I stumbled upon a Zumba class on accident when I was at the university gym one day.

In high school, I took Salsa classes at a local gym and also started attending a “dance fitness: Rumba” class. Looking back on it now, I realize it was basically a Zumba class without the name or the structure. I also took the high school curriculum dance class because I wanted to be on the dance team more than anything. I tried out for the dance company every year and didn’t make it even though  I knew that I danced better than some of the girls that did. I am not cocky about a lot of things, but I KNOW I am a great dancer.

Once I discovered Zumba, I was hooked. Not only did I feel better because I was working out, but I felt sexier. It gave me the confidence boost I needed to get over my ex and realize that it really wasn’t me that was the problem. Continue reading

My #SXSW 2014: Style Guide, Playlist, Twitter, and More!

Hello my readers!!

I have been completely slacking and busy, so I haven’t been keeping up with the blog. I promise that will change soon once this month is over.

I wanted to take some time to write about SXSW fashion and what I hope to wear and see other women wearing on the streets of Austin this week. It’s always tough for me to choose what to wear to music festivals and concerts. My style is all over the place, but if I could choose an outfit all of the following would be top contenders. My choice of style stems a lot from the types of shows I plan to attend.

I will post pictures of all my outfits later this week when I finally have vacation and spend my days at south by!
