Book Review: I Am That Girl by Alexis Jones, Sophia Bush (Foreword)

Book Information:

In a crazy, media distracted world the important questions often get lost like: What’s your passion? What’s your purpose? Who do you want to be? Alexis Jones has built a career listening to and helping girls around the world figure out those questions in order to inspire them to think for themselves, to speak their truth, to discover their purpose, and to dream HUGE! Alexis believes that you’re not broken nor do you need to be fixed. You already are that girl who creates magic wherever she goes, who lives fearlessly, who inspires those around her to dream bigger, and who will leave the world better, just for having been in it.
Stop listening to that voice inside your head that tells you you’re not good enough. Stop worrying that you don’t have the perfect body, perfect job, perfect relationship, or perfect anything for that matter. Stop letting other people draw boundaries and limits around your life. And start living the life that you truly want (now!), the one you didn’t think you had the courage to imagine, but the one that’s absolutely possible! Including stories from thirty incredible women, Alexis has compiled everything she’s learned into one complete guide to being That Girl, the best version of you.

My Review:

I guess I read this book at the perfect time in my life. I am going through somewhat of a transition right now. Sometimes it feels like I am not where I WANT to be in life. I love my career, but the spark I used to get about it is gone. “I Am That Girl” helped me see that I can find my passion and go for it without any fear.

My favorite part of the book was reading all the personal stories and quotes from leaders of all backgrounds. I really felt like I connected to all the stories in one way or another. Continue reading

Book Review: Prayers for the Stolen by Jennifer Clement

This is my first review for!!! I received a free copy of this book from in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book Information:

A haunting story of love and survival that introduces an unforgettable literary heroine.

Ladydi Garcia Martínez is fierce, funny and smart. She was born into a world where being a girl is a dangerous thing. In the mountains of Guerrero, Mexico, women must fend for themselves, as their men have left to seek opportunities elsewhere. Here in the shadow of the drug war, bodies turn up on the outskirts of the village to be taken back to the earth by scorpions and snakes. School is held sporadically, when a volunteer can be coerced away from the big city for a semester. In Guerrero the drug lords are kings, and mothers disguise their daughters as sons, or when that fails they “make them ugly” – cropping their hair, blackening their teeth- anything to protect them from the rapacious grasp of the cartels. And when the black SUVs roll through town, Ladydi and her friends burrow into holes in their backyards like animals, tucked safely out of sight. Continue reading

The Planning Latina: My Planner Life Last Week 3/16 -3/22

Wow!! It was a SUPER busy week last week! How did you all spend last week? I tried to do SXSW while also working last week and let’s just say I was unsuccessful. Haha

I did see some pretty hip shows and dancing in the street/rain was pretty fun. Even though after getting into venues was pretty tricky with how wet we were.

I will be posting more about my SXSW experience in another post to follow (today or tomorrow) for any of those who are curious. =)

I LOVED last week because I was able to get my hands on all sorts of planner supplies! My kikki.K came in, I gave in and bought a Heidi Swapp Memory Planner, and all sorts of stickers and accessories.

This is my Planning Week for 3/16 – 3/22!! I hope you all like my pictures!! Continue reading

The Planning Latina: My Planner Life Last Week 3/9 -3/13

Hello my lovely readers!

Last week was a pretty exciting planner week for me. Although I spent more money than I probably should have, I found really awesome planner things at great prices! I also decided to “upgrade” my office space so that I would love coming in to work more and keep motivated throughout the day.

I hope to start making YouTube videos soon. I wanted to do a video of the un-boxing of my new kikki.K planner, but I want to be more prepared before I made my first video. Stay tuned! Continue reading

Finding my Blogspiration, Changing my Blog Path: Introducing…The Planning Latina!

Hello everyone!

I am here with some EXCITING news!

After a lot of difficulty trying to find my blogspiration, I decided what I want to write about. This blog will be dedicated to my love for music, Zumba stuff, reviews of all things Austin, and my planner/planning obsession.

Mostly, though,  I will be posting about my planner obsession. I have started my planner addict Instagram account and would love if you all would follow me on there as well.

My love for the planner world began when I ordered my Erin Condren planner. I saw one of my sorority sisters post something about it and I decided to get one as well. I had been using planners all my life, but I never knew there was a community out there who felt the same about organizing and planning as I did. Continue reading
