Happy Monday!

This week’s Music Monday features a few new songs that I am totally in LOVE with!

Of course, after the Meek Mill vs. Drake debacle, it was only right to include Drake’s new single, which I am sure is going to be a hit.

Let’s get started!

Drake – “Hotline Bling”

I am so in love with this track! I went to visit my family this past weekend and my little sister introduced me to this song. I have been playing it on repeat since then. I really think that women are going to make this song a hit. It appeals more to women with it’s clever lyrics and simple flow. Even Lorde agrees! Forget about the beef with Meek Mill, you NEED to listen to this track. It is now available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and Soundcloud.

Pitbull – “Piensas” ft. Gente de Zona

If you have attended one of my Zumba classes before, you know I am OBSESSED with Pitbull. I have been a Pitbull fan since the tender age of 14 when Pitbull released his debut album M.I.A.M.I., lead single being “Culo” . It was the soundtrack choice of quinces and parties for the next few years. If you remember this was before Pitbull put on a suit and became the AMAZING artist and business man he is today. Piensas, the second single released November of last year from Pitbull’s album Dale, is a smooth reggaeton mixed with salsa beats from Gente de Zona. A Spanglish version of the song with Shaggy was released on July 24, 2015 on Spotify. Dale is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Dr. Dre – “Talk About It” ft. Justus & King Mez

After a 14-year hiatus, Dr. Dre is back with a soundtrack for the biopic, Straight Outta Compton, based on the life and times of N.W.A. For a person of his success and status, I expected the album to be well thought out, but mediocre in overall delivery. The album is surprisingly good and it really elevates Dr. Dre as a producer and overall artist. My favorite song so far on the album is Talk About It, which features up-and-coming rapper King Mez and little-known Dallas rapper Justus. Dr. Dre is known for finding new talent and transforming them into legends. I love this song, because in simple terms, it goes HARD. Dr. Dre’s new album was released on Friday, August 7, 2015 and is available now on iTunes.

Tough Love – “Pony (Jump On It)” ft. Ginuwine

With Tough Love’s rendition on Ginuwine’s Pony, it is clear that the late 90s/early 2000s are making a comeback! I don’t know about you, but I miss me some R&B. Tough Love mixes the original Pony with EDM elements to create a song that appeals to today’s generation without losing the “sexiness” of the original. I love this mix and will definitely be adding it to my workout playlist this week!  The single was released on Friday, August 7, 2015. You can find the song on iTunes and Apple Music.

These were my top picks for the week!

What new songs are you loving this week? Let me know in the comments below!

Stay in love,

Anali

Dear Donald Trump,

Thank you.

You have reminded me of how blessed and lucky I am.

My grandparents on my father’s side came to the United States after they applied to be residents and were accepted. This amazing country reviewed an application and granted them resident status. This country accepted my grandparents even though, according to you, they were most likely involved in drugs, crime, and rape. That didn’t seem to impact the decision to let them reside in this country. Continue reading

“At. Long. Last. A$AP” – A$AP Rocky

at-long-last-asap

At. Long. Last. A$AP is the second studio album by American hip hop recording artist A$AP Rocky. It was released on May 26, 2015, by A$AP Worldwide, Polo Grounds Music and RCA Records.

A$AP Rocky comes out swinging with his new album. The whole album itself is a carefully planned soundtrack to our lives. all walks of like can relate in one way or another to every song. Not only are the songs amazing, but A$AP Rocky brings on collaborations with guest verses from Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Future, M.I.A., Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and UGK, including Pimp C, who died in 2007. Rod Stewart and Miguel sing on one song.

As a music lover, I love all the different sounds that are used on this album. The album is laden with samples, from soul to Southern rock to indie rock. Nothing is too out of reach for A$AP Rocky. Continue reading

Music Monday: Kydd Jones Redefining Austin Hip Hop with “Patience”

Native Austinite Kydd Jones returns with a new single off his upcoming album “GR33D” which will feature artists like Kirko Bangz, Tory Lanez & more. Kydd has performed at festivals like SXSW, NXNE, A3C, Fun Fun Fun Fest & the Brooklyn HipHop Festival and has previously collaborated with artists like Yelawolf and Pac Div.

SXSW 2012. I went to a hip hop show on a Tuesday night. Out came out this scruffy black dude with a a simple shirt and some shorts. He had a cap that bared the letters LNS. He began his set and as the show went on I could not look away. Here was this kid from Austin, a place I had been living in for the past 5 years, and I had never see, or even heard of him. How did I miss this? How did I not know someone so talented was living and performing in the same city I lived in this whole time? Austin has a hip hop scene? Ha.

For my Father: Para mi Papá – “El Bribón”

10384442_10152068952600807_2751344717227739772_n

When I was 15, I told my dad I hated him. I told all my friends and peers at school I hated him. By the end of the month the whole town knew that I hated him.

See when you’re 15 and your dad tells you that you can’t have a boyfriend, can’t go to the movies with your friends, and takes your phone away at 9 PM when “free” minutes start…you can start to develop these types of feelings towards him.

We used to fight ALL THE TIME. I got into the habit of just being in a bad mood any time he was around. I never REALLY listened to anything he told me and realize now that in all those years that I was ignoring him, I could have learned so much from him.

He would wake my brother and I up really early during on our days off in the summer so that we could go and work for him. I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I “grew up”, but I swore at that age that I would never be anything like my father.

I used to sneak out and go to Mexico. I started going when I was 14 after I made friends with some upperclassmen. I would sneak through my window at first, as the years went on I stopped caring and started just going out the front door as quietly as I could. This was my system for a good year and a half. So far, so good. Continue reading

48 Years Ago: The first TRUE Music Festival – Monterey Pop 1967

screen-shot-2014-06-17-at-8-26-13-pm

In the Spring of 2011, I was going through a lot. My ex had just broken up with me because he started liking a girl he would study with. I was failing almost all my classes and really didn’t think I was going to graduate at that point. I turned the TV on in the middle of the night and a movie was on about a band with a self-destructive lead singer. The movie was called “The Doors” and I found out that night they were an actual band. I fell in LOVE with Jim Morrison. The rest of the night I went down the rabbit hole we call google search and found out more about the music and the bands and the revolution people my age at the time were leading. I became obsessed with the 60s and the change that came in that decade.

At the time I was going to music festivals like crazy. Mostly EDM festivals, but there were always those few acts that played something other than EDM. It was amazing. All these people that love the same kind of music; all in one place. I wanted to know more about music and about festivals. I wanted to learn the history of music; how it affected the nation and the world. I researched Woodstock and stumbled upon Monterey International Pop Music Festival. Continue reading

Music Monday: This Week’s Spotify Playlist – Julian <3

11026217_10206751983027831_286184986068622756_n

06-08-2012.

3 years ago Julian asked me to be his girlfriend at the pool after my sister asked him what we were.

It was random and unplanned just like the rest of our relationship up to that point. He was unexpected and I honestly wasn’t looking for him, or anyone for that matter, when I found him.

I thank God each and every day for bringing him into my life.

It’s been an amazing 3 years and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us! Continue reading
